Blackfalds Student Transportation Update

The start of the upcoming school year will see the opening of the new Iron Ridge Intermediate Campus in Blackfalds. Bringing the new school into operation will mean new opportunities for students and also new requirements to get students to and from school. This means that our transportation service within the Town of Blackfalds will be changing greatly. There will be new routes, pickup areas and times which will impact all students who access Wolf Creek Public Schools transportation.

Our transportation staff has been working to re-design bus routes to accommodate the three schools in the Town of Blackfalds. Final stop locations will be finalized the week of July 11, 2016 and maps will be posted to our division website by July 25, 2016. Our intent is to also provide approximate times for each location as well but they will be estimates and may change depending on ridership and other factors.

We encourage you to view the maps on our website and investigate how the new routes will impact on your students. We will use the website www.wolfcreek.ab.ca to communicate with you as the routing becomes more solid in the next two months. If you have any questions after viewing the information that will be on the website we encourage you to contact our transportation staff at 403-783- 3473 or via email (transportation@wolfcreek.ab.ca).

Iron Ridge Intermediate students residing east of Highway 2A are mostly within the 2.4 KM distance mandated for eligible transportation. At present we do not have sufficient numbers registered for the fee for service transportation ($475 per student). In order to provide service in this area we will have to acquire and pay for an additional bus. This will require 35 paid riders to provide this service. As of June 24, 2016 we only have 16 students who have expressed interest in this service. If you are interested please register your student as soon as possible. All students requiring access to busing must register on-line irrespective of where you reside.

Thank you for your support and assistance in advance as we work through these impactful changes in your community.
