National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, an empty orange chair is more than a symbol. It tells a story. In its silence, it speaks of the children taken from their families, made to sit in classrooms where their hair was cut, their language silenced, their identity stripped away. It is the story of hunger, of loneliness, of pain.
For every chair in those schools, there was an empty chair at home. Parents waiting. Families grieving. Communities torn.
On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we commit ourselves to honouring, to reconciliation, and to ensuring that every child matters.
