Top Academic ACES Awards - Based on academic averages, these awards (plaque and $100) will be presented to the top academic student in each grade
    Grade 7         Grade 10

Award Portfolios - Top mark in subject area, merit or honor certificates and ATA honor pins.

Honor Marks on Diploma Exams - Students with a diploma exam grade of 80% or better are paid ½ the amount of their mark, exam grade of 90% or better are paid dollar for dollar amount of their mark.

Principal’s List ($100) - Recognizes students with an overall average of over 90% or better

Alexander Rutherford Scholarship for High School Achievement - Available to all students in Alberta who achieve an average over 70% during their grade 10, 11 and 12 years.  For averages between 70% and 79.9% a maximum of $1500.00 is possible.  For averages 80% and over students may earn $2500.00.   Students must make application to receive the amount they have earned once they are enrolled and attending post-secondary education.

Governor General’s Academic Medal - The Governor General’s Medal, established in 1873, recognizes students who have achieved the highest academic average.  The average includes all grade 11 and 12 courses as listed on the student’s official transcript of grades and must be calculated based on final results after provincial examinations.  There is no differentiation between “academic” and “vocational” types of course; all those courses taken which directly result in the obtaining of a secondary school diploma should be included in the calculation. However, courses taken after graduation to upgrade marks are not included.

Bentley Seed Cleaning Plant Scholarship - The amount is dependent on the number of qualifying students and is available to graduating students of Eckville, Rimbey, Bentley, Lacombe, Alix and CACHS who have resided in the area for the past three years.  Students must be registered in a post-secondary program and have an overall average of at least 70%.  Students pursuing post-secondary education in an agricultural field will be given preference.  Complete the application form and submit to the office by the end of the school year to apply.

Edwin R. Olsen Math Award - This award commencing in 1996 is a tribute to Edwin R. Olsen who worked diligently and with total dedication to the Eckville Jr. Sr. High School for 33 years.  This award will be awarded annually to the student with the most improved Mathematics mark from Grade 10 to Grade 12.  Each recipient will have their name engraved on a main plaque in the school and receive a keeper plaque.  All students who complete a 30 level math course will be considered for this award.

Lorna Tink English Award -This award is a tribute to Lorna Tink who worked with the students of Eckville Jr. Sr. High School for many years.  This award will be awarded annually to the student with the most creative writing in English throughout their High School career.  Each recipient will have their name engraved on a main plaque in the school and receive a keeper plaque.  All graduating students will be considered for this award.

Valedictorian Award - This award began in 2007 for the student with the highest average in Grade 12 based on their final marks including the diploma exams.

Eckford Trophy - This trophy is awarded by the Town of Eckville to a grade 12 student who has contributed the most to the school in his or her high school career.  The student must be outstanding scholastically, athletically and be a school/community minded volunteer.  The student is selected by school administration in consultation with the school staff.

Wolf Creek Local ATA Scholarship - This scholarship is sponsored by the ATA Local for Wolf Creek Regional Division and will be awarded to a deserving candidate from the Eckville Jr. Sr. High School at the fall Awards Ceremony.  Conditions of the award:

  1. The recipient must have an average of 65% or more in grade 12
  2. The recipient must have proof of acceptance as a full time student in a post secondary institution.
  3. The recipient must be pursuing a post-secondary career in education related fields.
  4. Students should make application to the school administration by June 1st of their grade 12 year.

Sylvan Lake Rotary Scholarships - Rotary scholarships are awarded to two grade twelve students who are enrolled in post-secondary programs following their high school graduation. This does not mean a degree granting institution and may include apprenticeships, diploma or recognized skills training.  The recipient should be a student whose lifestyle reflects the Rotarian “test”.

Of all the things we think, say and do…

  • Is it the truth?
  • Is it fair to all concerned?
  • Will it bring good will and better friendship?
  • Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Selection of the candidate is to be made by the school’s scholarship selection committee with the focus being the criteria and not the candidate’s scholastic standing.  Each recipient of the award will have their name engraved on a main plaque that remains on display in the school.  They will receive a keeper plaque and the scholarship money. (Two scholarship of $1000.00 each will be presented in Eckville Jr. Sr. High School).  These scholarships are generously donated by the Rotary Club of Sylvan Lake and District.  To apply, write a 1-2 page paper that explains who you are and how you live your own life.  You could include your professional or occupational goals, why you selected the particular college you plan to attend, your extra-curricular activities, including your particular role in such activities, your work experience and/or volunteer experience, your reason for applying for this scholarship and any other information you believe would be useful to the committee in making its decision.

Mountain View Credit Union Scholarships -  Available to members in good standing and their immediate family members.  Candidates must submit an essay of 500–800 words describing their achievements, community or volunteer involvement, educational goals, and future plans.  Two letters of reference must be included.  Inquire at your local branch for more information.

Bower Dental Centre Scholarship - Bower Dental Centre sponsors an award for a deserving, outstanding student that shines in any of the following areas:  Academic    Citizenship    Sportsmanship

Alberta Citizenship Awards The Province of Alberta offers three citizenship awards in recognition of students who support and contribute to Alberta communities through public service and volunteer endeavors in school sponsored, community or extracurricular activities.   The three awards are:

  • Premier’s Citizenship Award – One award plaque for a student in each Alberta high school
  • Queen’s Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal – Eight awards of $5000.00 and a medal presented by the Lieutenant Governor
  • Alberta Centennial Awards – Twenty-five awards of $2005 each

Nominees for an Alberta Citizenship Award must be:

  • Alberta residents and
  • Graduating from high school in the current academic year

Nominees must have displayed outstanding characteristics in:

  • Citizenship
  • Leadership
  • Community service, volunteer work, and must also have shown initiative and had a positive impact in the community and/or school

Please note:  Academic achievement is not a requirement for these awards.  You can submit an application form to the office for consideration.

Rocky REA Scholarship Program - Two $1000.00 scholarships to recognize the academic accomplishments of the children of members of the Rocky REA and to assist the students with their post-secondary pursuits.

Eckville Aces Canteen Scholarship - Presented annually to a student that has volunteered within the school community in an effort to improve the school.  The recipient must have shown this commitment throughout their years in the school.  All graduating students will be considered.

Jennifer Gomes-Kananen Memorial Scholarship - Presented to student in their grade twelve year that demonstrates a love of sports and the school environment as Jenn herself did.

Sunny 94 Scholarship - Awarded to a student who shows interest in fine arts or communications, based on a short paragraph response.  Follow the link to the application form.
