Rimbey Jr/Sr High School Scholarships The following conditions will apply to awards and scholarships at Rimbey Junior Senior High School:1. The mark used for non-diploma subjects will be the teacher's final mark2. The mark used for diploma subjects will be the final blended mark sent out by Alberta Education.3. Students are not allowed to use a mark from a Departmental rewrite or from repeating a course, for award purposes.4. The student must be a current graduate of Rimbey High School.5. The awards committee will be made up of the Principal, the High School Vice-Principal, Counselors, and other members as appointed by the Principal.6. If no suitable candidate is found, the awards committee could decide not to give the award.7. Any student who obtains 5 - 30 level courses at Rimbey Junior Senior High School is eligible for Valedictorian.8. VALEDICTORIAN AWARD Sponsor: Keyera Energy Amount: $1000.00 Conditions: The highest average of English 30 and four of Science 30, Chemistry 30, Biology 30, Physics 30, Social Studies 30, Math 30, Math 31 and French 30. If there is a tie, the next highest subject is chosen; and so on. Must take all of Grade 12 at Rimbey High School. RIMBEY CO-OP AWARD Amount: $1500 Conditions: 1. A Rimbey Co-op staff member or immediate family member OR 2. Members of the Rimbey Co-op.Students must be attending a post-secondary program in the fall. Applicants will be required to demonstrate Co-op involvement as well as involvement in sports, community activities, volunteer activities, type and length of program, cost of program, and any other pertinent information. LINDBERG HIGHER EDUCATION AWARD Sponsor: The Lindberg Family Amount: $500.00 (estimate) Conditions: This award is the yearly accumulation of interest that is earned on a $15,000.00 base donation by Mr. & Mrs. Wilton Lindberg. It is given to the student who has achieved the second highest average in grade 12 and who is enrolled in a recognized post secondary institution. Averages will be calculated in English 30 and four of the following: Math 30, Math 31, Social Studies 30, Biology 30, Chemistry 30, Physics 30, French 30 The recognized institutions must deal primarily with the academic upgrading of the student, whether technologically (i.e. NAIT) or theoretically (i.e. U of A). If the second highest does not qualify for the award, then the third highest is chosen, and so on. Ties broken the same as for Valedictorian. This student must set a good example and be a model for others in behavior, attitude and work habits. Must be a student "looked up to" and "well thought of" by peers as well as teachers. Participation in community, yearbook, athletics, intramural and student association may be used. All years of high school are to be used. BENTLEY SEED CLEANING PLANT SCHOLARSHIP Amount - interest earned by and endowment fund of $31,792.70 to be divided equally among the qualifying students. Conditions: Must be attending a post secondary program with a minimum duration of one year. Preference given to an agriculture or related field. Must obtain an overall average of at least 70% in Grade 12. Must be a resident of the district for a minimum of three years. RAP SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) ScholarshipsTo qualify for the scholarship, RAP apprentices must have plans to continue into a regular apprenticeship program. They must also: * earn an Alberta high school diploma or certificate of achievement * have completed a minimum of 250 hours of work experience in RAP * get a recommendation from an employer, supervisor or journeyman stating that they should continue in the apprenticeship program with the goal of becoming a Certified JourneymanAdditionally, the apprentice will be asked to provide: * a personal statement of purpose indicating why he or she is a "good fit" for a career in a trade * a high school transcript * any additional comments from an employer, supervisor or journeyman See website for application details.
