Confirmed Case of COVID-19 Identified at Ponoka Secondary Campus

Ponoka — A case of COVID-19 has been diagnosed in an individual at Ponoka Secondary Campus (PSC). Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) and Ponoka Secondary Campus administration were notified by Alberta Health Services (AHS) Oct. 4, and are working closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students.

PSC administrators directly contacted by phone parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers who may have been in close contact with the case. Close contacts have been advised they must self isolate for 14 days in accordance with Alberta Health guidelines. AHS will also be in contact with close contacts.

“It is understandable that a confirmed case at a school can create a level of anxiety. We want to assure everyone that our staff and AHS worked quickly to identify and contact families. These measures are all in place to minimize risk and spread and ensure everyone can remain safe, aware and informed,” said Jayson Lovell, WCPS superintendent. “We are committed to reinforcing our health and safety measures to make sure everyone remains safe and healthy.”

As part of those measures, WCPS reminds parents/guardians of students, as well as any staff/visitors/volunteers to check for any symptoms of COVID-19, using the Alberta Health daily checklist available at: www.wolfcreek.ab.ca/covid-19/daily-self-screening-for-covid-19. If you have symptoms, do not attend school and fill out the Alberta Government’s health assessment, or call 811.
