Melissa Rogers appointed principal at École James S. McCormick School

Wolf Creek Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce that Melissa Rogers has been appointed as principal at École James S. McCormick School (ÉJSM), beginning August 2024.

Rogers has been an educator since 2001, as she began her teaching career in Lethbridge as a physical education specialist and from there moved to teaching physical education in Abbotsford, BC before returning to central Alberta in 2012. Most recently she has served as assistant principal at ÉJSM.

"Melissa has been a tremendous addition to the leadership team at ÉJSM,” said Sonja Dykslag, assistant superintendent of People Services. “She has a strong history at the school and we are excited to know that our staff, students and school community will continue to be served by Melissa in this new capacity.” 

Rogers has taught at  École James S. McCormick since 2012 where she has also served as the school's Wellness Champion and supports the WCPS Wellness CORE team. Rogers has a combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge with a major in Kinesiology, and is pursuing her Master’s degree in Indigenous Education. 

"I am truly humbled by the opportunity to serve the wonderful community of Lacombe as the newly appointed Principal of École James S. McCormick,” said Rogers. “I look forward to continued collaboration with our dedicated staff team in nurturing and empowering our incredible students. Building strong community connections and offering diverse, impactful learning experiences to all students are at the core of my passion."

Rogers takes the role of principal as Tracy Duckett announced her retirement, as of the end of June this year.
